URLTracker — Track, analyze, grow

Custom-domain link tracker

Track branded short links on a domain you control.

Serve recognizable tracking URLs from your own subdomain while URLTracker handles redirect analytics and managed HTTPS at the edge.

No credit card. No tracking code required.

01

Your brand

Share go.yourbrand.com links instead of an unfamiliar provider hostname.

02

Managed HTTPS

URLTracker provisions certificates after DNS ownership and hostname validation succeed.

03

Full analytics

Use the same click, source, device, bot, conversion, and revenue reports.

04

Portable DNS

You retain control of the domain and can remove or change its DNS record.

SECTION 01

Why use a custom domain for tracking?

A recognizable hostname helps a recipient understand who is sharing the link before opening it. It keeps campaign URLs consistent with websites, email, printed material, and product branding. The custom domain changes the public address, while the destination and analytics continue to be managed through URLTracker.

Use a dedicated subdomain such as go.example.com rather than moving an established website hostname. This isolates redirect traffic, simplifies DNS configuration, and avoids interfering with mail or website records. The domain should clearly belong to the sender and must not imitate another organization.

SECTION 02

How the CNAME connection works

Add the domain inside the workspace, then create the displayed CNAME record with your DNS provider. The hostname points to URLTracker’s customer-domain target. Cloudflare validates the hostname and provisions HTTPS. DNS caching means activation may take time even after the record is saved correctly.

The dashboard distinguishes pending DNS, certificate provisioning, active service, and provider errors. Only active hostnames can be selected for new links. Do not add proxying or conflicting A, AAAA, or CNAME records unless the instructions for your DNS provider specifically require it.

  • Choose a dedicated subdomain
  • Copy the exact CNAME name and target
  • Remove conflicting records
  • Wait for both hostname and HTTPS status to become active

SECTION 03

Brand links without losing measurement

Custom-domain clicks use the same redirect pipeline as URLTracker links. Events retain time, source, UTM, approximate geography, device, browser, bot classification, conversion, and revenue context. QR codes can encode the branded URL, and destinations can be edited without changing printed artwork.

Create separate branded links for channels you need to compare. A domain alone does not create useful attribution; link naming and campaign parameters still matter. Test the hostname, redirect, mobile destination, and conversion event before distributing it widely.

SECTION 04

Security and domain ownership

Only connect domains you own or are authorized to manage. Certificate issuance and DNS validation protect against arbitrary hostname takeover, but workspace access must also be restricted. Remove former team members and investigate unexpected DNS changes or certificate failures.

A branded domain can increase trust only when its destinations are trustworthy. URLTracker may suspend links or hostnames used for phishing, malware, impersonation, harassment, or unlawful tracking. Domain owners remain responsible for disclosures, content, and lawful campaign use.

Step by step

Start measuring in minutes.

  1. 1

    Choose a subdomain

Use a dedicated hostname such as go.example.com that you are authorized to manage.

  2. 2

    Add it in URLTracker

Enter the hostname in the workspace domain page and copy its assigned target.

  3. 3

    Create the CNAME

Save the exact DNS record and remove any conflicting address or alias record.

  4. 4

    Wait for activation

Use the hostname after DNS validation and managed HTTPS both report active.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about custom-domain link tracker.

Should I connect my root domain?

A dedicated subdomain is recommended because it avoids conflicting with an existing website and is easier to isolate operationally.

Why is my domain still pending?

DNS propagation, an incorrect target, proxy settings, conflicting records, or certificate validation can delay activation.

Does URLTracker host my website?

No. The connected hostname serves tracked redirects; your main website and other services remain separate.

Can I remove the domain later?

Yes, but links using it will stop resolving after DNS or service removal. Plan a migration before disconnecting an active hostname.

Are branded links tracked differently?

No. They use the same analytics and conversion pipeline as provider-hosted URLTracker links.
